Record-Hot July Leads To Record Energy Use In NYC

NEW YORK (CBS 2) ― Call it a heat wave and an energy wave.

The month of July was a summer sizzler and a record-breaker. Soon, Con Edison customers will have the electric bills to prove it.

Con Ed said New Yorkers in the five boroughs and Westchester used more electricity last month than any month in the company's history.

The utility delivered 6.9 million megawatt hours in July, a month that saw 16 days with temperatures of 90 or above.

Con Ed's old record was set in July 2008, and was only 6.7 million.
