Cops: S.I. Father Apparently Stabbed Family, Then Self

A 34-year-old Staten Island woman and her two young children have been rushed to the hospital after they were apparently stabbed by her husband, the children's father.

Police responded to a call at about 8:30 p.m. about a dispute involving a knife at 110 Hempstead Avenue in the Midland Beach section of Staten Island.

When they arrived on-scene at the townhouse, they found the woman - identified by neighbors as schoolteacher Victoria Olnik - and her 18-month-old son in front of the house with slash wounds to their necks.

The mother told police that the children's father attacked them, and that he was inside with their three-year-old daughter.

Officials say the suspect was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted slash wound to his neck; he was pronounced dead-on-arrival. The three-year-old was also found with a slash wound to the neck.

All three victims were rushed to Staten Island University Hospital, where they are listed in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
