Embattled Congressman Charles Rangel reportedly signed a deal to end his messy ethics probe, but House Republicans would not go along with it.

According to Politico, Rangel made the revelation Saturday during a meeting of  Harlem district leaders.

Details of the reported settlement were not available, but Politico said it existed around the time of Rangel’s initial public hearing in July.

Rangel faces an ethics trial after being charged with 13 House rules violations.
