Giants Blog: Kenny's Comeback

By Paul Dottino

ALBANY, N.Y. – Kenny Phillips appears to be good to his word. He looked fluid in his first practice since undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee last September.

Sure, it was only 12 snaps, he slipped and fell on back-to-back plays at one point, and he only was involved in one play – but Phililps was in vintage form. On his third snap of the morning, he raced to the right flat and quickly closed to made a diving deflection of a pass intended for tight end Scott Chandler. Phillips said his only disappointment was that he did not make the interception - he made the correct reads on all 12 snaps and said he didn't think about his knee.

Phillips said he felt fine and was expecting to practice again Tuesday. Coach Tom Coughlin said the team will bring him along slowly and - while Phillips will not play in the preseason opener against the Jets – it's still possible for him to start Week 1 against Carolina.

Center Shaun O'Hara returned to practice after a week off with a swollen ankle and said he felt fine, hoping that it's the last time he'll have to deal with it. But he said he could not be certain.

To further update the medical report, Will Beatty got poked in the during practice and Coughlin said Sinorice Moss was nursing a sore groin, Kevin Boss is out with a hamstring/ankle, and Rich Seubert will soon be fitted for a wrap on his broken wrist that will allow him to practice but may not be suited for game use.

Here were the best highlights from practice:
*Corey Webster made a nice play to knock down a skinny post pass from Jim Sorgi to Ramses Barden.
*Terrell Thomas fought through Barden to knock down a curl on the left sideline.
*Victor Cruz snared a 45-yard Rhett Bomar pass down the left sideline. Later, Cruz made a twisting fingertip grab of a Bomar pass in traffic.
*Bear Pascoe reached up to make a nice grab on a Bomar pass along the right side.
