With Boomer still enjoying some well deserved time off, Steve Phillips filled in admirably for the Blonde Bomber and he and Craig had plenty to talk about. They got things started by talking about the landmark event that took place last night in the New Meadowlands, when the Giants and the Jets squared off in the first ever football game in the new digs. Craig and Steve were not on the same page regarding which team made out better in the pre-season tilt between hometown rivals. The Giants won the game 31-16, but Craig walked away thinking his Jets got the better of Big Blue, Steve did not agree. One sour note for the Giants, Eli Manning got a gash across his forehead that required 12 stitches after bumping into Brandon Jacobs in the backfield, early indications are that he will be okay. Then it was on to the on-going Frankie Rodriguez saga. During his well documented skirmish last week, apparently K-Rod did some damage to his thumb and will be out the remainder of the season. Craig wants his contract to be voided, but Steve explains it’s not that simple…

The Giants got three second half touchdowns from a undrafted rookie Victor Cruz out of UMass, who is from Paterson, NJ. Craig and Steve discuss the young receiver’s future in the NFL prior to Jerry’s first update of the day…

The Jets were the home team in last night’s interstate clash at the brand new Meadowlands, which meant we were sure to get a glimpse or two of the self-proclaimed biggest Jets fan around, Fireman Ed. Well, Ed had a little altercation with a Giants fan that resulted in one of the men being ejected from the Stadium. That man’s name was Chris and when he heard Craig and Steve talking about the incident that he was a part of, he decided to call in and give his side of the story…

Jerry is a big time Cowboys fan and the fact that he was sporting a t-shirt of his favorite team did not go unnoticed by Craig. Jerry also likes to hang a Cowboys flag outside of his home, which he informed us will go up on September 12th, when Dallas opens up their season on the road against the Redskins, which is certain to be a proud day for the entire Recco family. Then we learned all about Jerry Manuel’s affinity for Gandhi, during a hard hitting interview courtesy of WFAN’s Mets beat reporter, Ed Coleman…

Al often likes to come up with Mets parody songs that both instill laughter and motivate the team at the same time. He has worked wonders for Mike Pelfrey and R.A. Dickey. Well today we heard his latest parody for Mets shamed closer Francisco Rodriguez, set to the music of the Rolling Stones 1966 song, ‘Under My Thumb’. The fact that K-Rod is out for the rest of the season indicates Al wasn’t looking to motivate him, but while it was playing, laughter certainly ensued. Al is calling his version, ‘I Hurt (Under My Thumb)’…

At the tail end of the 8 o’clock hour the guys got a call from an angry 64 year-old listener named Al, and he wanted to tell Craig that he talks too much and has a big mouth. He claimed to hate ole Craigie, but yet still waited on hold for over 45 minutes to come on and talk to him. As often happens with these kinds of hostile listeners, when the conversation ended, Craig had him eating out of his hand and the 64 year-old Al embarrassingly swallowed his pride and accepted Yankees tickets from the man he called to express his distain for…

Steve Phillips was sitting in for Boomer for the second time this morning and it became quite obvious early on in today’s Show that Craig is starting to rub off on him. If you don’t believe me just give a listen to Jerry’s highly anticipated Moment of the Day, where Steve utters a word, numerous times, close to Craig’s heart…

Can somone get Craig Carton off the radio once and for all?! If I were the NY Giants I would do everything in my power to get him booted from the fan for defamation of character. In typical Carton fashion he jumps all over this based on a moron at Ticketmaster. Where was he when the jets slashed their prices midway through the off season after thousands of people paid full price. Did he consider the Jets frauds??
