NEW YORK (WCBS 880/1010 WINS) - It’s HOPE Week and the New York Yankees are just doing another good deed to brighten people’s day, as WCBS 880′s Catherine Cioffi reports.
Melida Arias stood in her Wendy’s uniform behind the counter taking orders, when all of the sudden the, New York Yankees walked in.
Arias described her reaction as, “Shocked. Overwhelmed.”
Arias and her sister Johanna, natives of the Bronx, have over come years of poverty and homelessness.
Johanna is now working to help put her sister through college and support her family.
She explains that the Yankees are her inspiration, saying, “If they can win it so many times because of hard work and then perseverance, there’s nothing that we can’t do.”
“We are inspired by her,” A-Rod told 1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa.
Robinson Cano identifies with the sisters, saying, “I came from a poor country. She wants to go to school. You know what, it’s the kind of stuff I would never say no [to].”
