Schwartz On Sports: Jets’ Center Of Attention
By Peter Schwartz
The Jets continued training camp Monday at the Atlantic Health Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey.

The big news around here today is the reported contract extension that the Jets and Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold have agreed to or are close to a contract extension.
Mangold, on the advice of his agent, would not discuss the reports, but Ryan did say that the two sides were close.
Practice was closed to the public because of the rain and was moved inside.
Some notes from practice…
Mark Sanchez was 4 for 5 in the eleven on eleven portion of practice against the first string defense. He fired a 55 yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards but also threw a pass that should have been picked off by Bryan Thomas. He flat out dropped what would have been a pick 6 for a touchdown.
In a moment that should make for intriguing television on “Hard Knocks”, Jets owner Woody Johnson, general manager Mike Tannenbaum, and wide receiver Santonio Holmes were having a conversation on the sideline. The HBO cameras and microphones were there so we’ll have to wait and see what they were talking about.
Holmes continues to have a great training camp as he had another strong practice on Monday.
During individual drills, Mark Sanchez was the quarterback while Kellen Clemens lined up as a wide receiver. Sanchez threw to Braylon Edwards who then flipped the ball to an oncoming Clemens.
With Brad Smith under center, Ladainian Tomlinson continued a strong camp with a nice run.
First round pick Kyle Wilson picked off Kevin O’Connell.
Defensive end Ropati Pitoitua was placed on season ending IR with an Achilles tendon injury.
Guard Charlie Tanner suffered a knee injury during a 9 on 7 drill and did not return. The extent of the injury is not known.
TAKING A SHOT AT REVIS
In a not so subtle jab, guard Brandon Moore took a shot at his holdout teammate Darrelle Revis. When asked about reports of a Nick Mangold contract extension and his decision to show up for camp despite being unhappy with his contract, Moore applauded Mangold.
And if you read between the lines, he rips Revis. Here is the audio…
Moore was discussing Revis’ shenanigans at minicamp.
BACK TO THEIR ROOTS
After another practice in New Jersey on Tuesday, the Jets will report to their longtime training camp home on Wednesday when they practice at Hofstra Univeristy.
It’s also a homecoming for Long Island native D’Brickashaw Ferguson. I caught up with the pride of Freeport after practice and he’s looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. Here’s my interview with him…
I also sat down with wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery after practice. We talked about a number of topics including Friday’s pre-season game against the Washington Redskins.
That’s it for now. I’ll have more later in the week!
