Jones Beach Concert Jumper Faces Criminal Charges

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- A Maine man who was injured after leaping from the upper deck at Long Island's Jones Beach Theater has surrendered to face reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct charges.

Luke Duplessis was awaiting arraignment Friday in Hempstead, N.Y. It was not immediately clear whether the 30-year-old Old Town, Maine, resident was represented by an attorney.

New York State Park Police say he landed in a seating area about 25 feet below during intermission of an Aug. 18 concert by the jam-band Phish.

Duplessis was treated at Nassau University Medical Center. One spectator below reported a minor injury.

The show continued after the intermission.

The following day, a fan attending a performance by The Swell Season jumped to his death at a show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif.
