Man Disappears While Swimming Off NJ Beach

ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) -- Officials suspended the search for a man who disappeared while swimming off a New Jersey beach four hours after it began Wednesday.

Garrett Giberson with the Asbury Park Fire Department says divers and swimmers were getting knocked around by the surf and strong current. Giberson says the tide also came in so the water got deeper.

Giberson says lifeguards will continue looking for Franky Lezin from the shore until conditions improve.

Lezin was about 30 yards off the city's Second Avenue beach in approximately 10 feet of water when he disappeared Tuesday evening.

Lezin was swimming after lifeguards went off duty at 5 p.m.

A nephew and a third person who were with Lezin safely made it to shore.
