NEW YORK (CBS 2/AP) – Members of a St. Lucian soccer team played in remembrance of a slain teammate as they took the field for a final match in a New York City tournament.

Philip Tisson was shot to death while the team was out celebrating early Aug. 30. Tisson’s coach said he’d been at the location after scoring the winning goal on Sunday against St. Kitts and putting his team in next weekend’s Digicel Caribbean Cup final against Jamaica.

The team went on to lose 1-0 to Jamaica on Sunday, but members fought hard and honored their slain teammate.

The New York Times reported that Tisson’s father was at the game, cheering on the team. NYPD detectives are still investigating the shooting. Tisson was in a car after being out a club when a gunman shot him in the head.
