Fashion Week Gets a Reggae Twist

NEW YORK (CBS New York) -- If the idea of Fashion Week and its miles of runways, models, and high-end fashion leaves you totally intimidated you're not alone.  Not everyone starts off the day with a closet full of couture.

For most of us jeans and t-shirts are the standard, and thanks to the daughter of music legend Bob Marley, we regular folk will be represented at tonight's Fashion's Night Out.

Cedella Marley followed in her father's creative footsteps, a musician in her own right, and member of the Grammy Award winning Melody Makers, Cedella also designs her own line of fashion.  "Catch a Fire", her casual wear line, and not coincidentally the name of her father's first album will be showcased at Barney's New York Friday from 6pm-11pm.

Cedella sat down with CBS New York to discuss her fashion line, and involvement in this iconic industry event.

Catch a Fire Tees by Cedella Marley

How would you define your personal style?

Rebellious yet feminine.
What kind of process do you have while designing a line?
The beauty for me is to take inspiration from what exists and make it into something completely different.
How influenced is your collection by the music of your father?  The current music scene?
It's not so much the music that inspires my designs...but  the music and its message that keeps me happy and going.
In addition to your women's clothing line, you have a line for infants.  Is the world of baby clothes changing?
The parents are the ones who are changing, we want to know our kids are wearing safe and environmentally friendly materials.  I design with [that] in mind.
Matching clothes for mom and baby: cute or crazy?
If they are matching Bob Marley tees…cute .
What kind of statement do you want your clothing to make?
Strong. Sexy. I dare you.
Where can we find the 'Catch a Fire' line?
We will be launching www.cedellamarley.com very soon but you can also find tees from my line at Macy's, Hot Topic, Delia's, and Anchor Blue.
