Remembering 9/11: Archival Footage

Updated: 9/8/11

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four U.S. airliners to crash them into civilian targets. Three hit their marks, but average American citizens rose up and took down the fourth -- winning a victory that eluded both the government and the military on that Tuesday.

Nearly 3,000 people were murdered.

Its been years since the attacks, and time has done little to heal the gaping wounds. We not only remember, but every day we live the legacy of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the thwarted attack on Flight 93.

We have endured anthrax scares, other terror plots, and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. For Americans, New Yorkers in particular, the 9/11 anniversary will always resonate. We remember those who unwillingly sacrificed their lives on 9/11, and salute those who tried to save the victims of the deadly acts of terrorism.

CBS 2HD presents a comprehensive retrospective on the horrific events of 9/11 and their aftermath, including the attacks themselves, the heroes of United Flight 93, recordings of emergency calls from victims and first responders, the 9/11 Commission, the Zacarias Moussaoui trial, post-9/11 security responses, and more.
