Schwartz: Prepping For Pats

By Peter Schwartz

The Jets got back to work on Wednesday as they began preparations for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Head coach Rex Ryan ruled LB Calvin Pace out for Sunday.

Safety Brodney Pool was limited in practice because of his ankle injury. Ryan said it was too early to tell if Pool would be able to play on Sunday.

With Kris Jenkins out for the season, the Jets signed DL Howard Green and placed Jenkins on IR. Green played for the Jets last season and signed with the Redskins as a free agent but was cut on September 4th…

I caught up with Green on Wednesday after practice…

Ryan said the Jets brought in Adalius Thomas for a physical but there are no immediate plans to sign him.

Ryan also said that there are no plans to sign WR Laveranues Coles right now.

Here's an interesting item from Patriots QB Tom Brady's conference call with New York reporters….

Brady was asked if the Jets talk too much….

"I don't really care what they do to tell you the truth. I'm concerned with what we do. That's been our M.O. for a lot of years. I think it was successful for us. Jets are going to do what they're going to do and we're going to do what we're going to do. The reality is none of it really matters. What matters is how we go out and play this weekend."

Brady went on to say…..

"Listen guys, the truth is, with all due respect, to win games is preparation, work, commitment and being on the same page with your team. That's why you win games. I can really make all the predictions in the world, but I've got to go out there and play and I think that's what is important to us. Every team has different styles. Every team does it differently. There is no right or wrong way. It's just the way that works for us. That's why I don't think we buy into what other people say about us, good, bad or indifferent. We've got to go out there and play the game."

DE JA VU?

Jets fans may not want to hear about bad memories from the best, but it seems to me that the 2010 season is starting to bear an eery resemblance to a disappointing campaign of the past.

In 1998, the Jets made to the AFC Championship game. They led the Broncos at halftime but wound up losing the game to fall short of their Super Bowl dreams.

The following year, many experts picked the Jets to go to the Super Bowl. But, on opening day, QB Vinnie Testaverde suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the Jets loss to the Patriots and would miss the entire season. The Jets finished 8-8 and did not make the playoffs.

Fast forward to 2009. The Jets make it to the AFC Title game against the Colts. Gang Green is winning at halftime, but Indianapolis rallies to win.

Now, think about all of the hype heading into the 2010 season. What happened in Monday's season opener? NT Kris Jenkins suffers a torn left ACL in the loss to the Ravens and is done for the season.

Just some food for thought!

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

A league spokesperson told me on Wednesday that the NFL's look into Saturday's incident involving a female reporter at the Jets facility is ongoing.

TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz claims that she was uncomfortable covering the Jets on Saturday. Reports indicate that during drills, balls were intentionally overthrown to land in her direction. She was scheduled to interview Mark Sanchez and was reportedly harassed in the locker room with catcalls from Jets players.

The league hopes to resolved the matter as soon as possible.

THE JETS GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

The Jets have donated $25,000 in grants to 15 schools in the Florham Park and Madison, New Jersey area to help over 5,000 area children stay fit with the FITNESSGRAM Assessment Tool. The program is part of a $1.8 million grant from the Jets and NFL Chafieis to The Cooper Institute in support of NFL Play 60.

SANCHEZ IS A COVER BOY….AGAIN

TV Guide Magazine has partnered with Showtime, "Inside The NFL" and the NFL to create "TV Guide Magazine; "Inside The NFL Special Collector's Edition". It's a 92-page publication that features a comprehensive look at the 2010 season. There are four different covers including one with Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. The other covers are Saints QB Drew Brees, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, and Chargers QB Phillip Rivers.
