HUNTINGTON STATION, NY (WCBS 880) - There are 21 extra officers on patrol day and night in the troubled Long Island community of Huntington Station.

LISTEN: WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports

WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall followed one officer as he drove slowly past the Jack Abrams School, searching for any signs of trouble.

Then he drove past the train station and down Church Street. That is where two people were shot recently.

In fact, in the last few months there have been 13 shootings, stabbings, and two murders in Huntington Station, including a 16-year-old getting shot in the leg at the school.

This prompted the extra patrols and the officers were definitely visible.

It seemed like every other street Sophia Hall drove down, there was a patrol car.
