Sesame Street Pulls Katy Perry From Show

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) — Katy Perry’s cleavage is fine for Russell Brand — not so for Elmo and Sesame Street.

The children’s show says it won’t air a taped segment featuring the “California Gurls” singer and Elmo. The pop star — who is known for her risque outfits — wore a gold bustier top as she sang a version of her hit “Hot & Cold.” But some felt it was too revealing for the kid set.

Sesame Street said in a statement Thursday that in light of the “feedback we’ve received” after the bit was aired on YouTube, they won’t include it on the show. While the show said it would still be available on YouTube, it had been removed by the official Sesame Street YouTube channel.

“We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best with co-viewing with a parent or care-giver,” the show said. “We also value our viewers’ opinions and particularly those of parents.”

Perry’s rep did not return a message seeking comment Thursday morning.

Nonsense. Spend more time with your kids and turn off the TV before those lunatics agree to marry bert and ernie.

  2. Ariel says:

    1. SS should have made her change her clothes, if she was too revealing.
    2. If parents start to nit pick, then Dora needs to change her outfit.
    3. Kids are not going to matter what she is wearing.
    4. Elmo is naked; Bert and Ernie are in a relationship
Come on people there was nothing wrong with the skit. It was cute; stop nit picking everything little thing out there..It doesnt bother our kids.

its parents who teach the kids whats considered steamy.but other then that lil pete wont mind he just likes the show. But really they did see what she was tramping before the shoot. So it looks like i want more eyes on me ! Type thing just to keep it funky.

  4. Lewis says:

    It’s an overreaction by parents.

  5. AAR says:

Elmo walks around naked. Prudish parents shouldn’t worry about what she is wearing but about what Elmo is not wearing, he is naked. You should be glad if your child wants to atilt wear clothes like hers. Complain if they want to be naked like Elmo. She looks like Tinkerbell, are we going to start harassing Disney about their characters too?

  6. Gerry says:

Seriously??? If that dress is suggestive, then Dora’s belly hanging out should be brought up. Why do we have to be so politically correct?

  7. Lou says:

too much “bouncin’ around” for sesame street…

    1. Goddessii says:

bouncing of what? she bearly has anything to bounce…. i thought it was a cute skit…. and if sesame street had a problem with what she was wearing, they coud have had her change her outfit…

  9. chunk norris says:

I think NOW would be a good time to bring up what has REALLY been going on with Bert & Ernie, and their “Life Partner” situation.

  10. Elmo says:

    Now Elmo has 3 legs!

  11. John says:

Thank goodness that children, especially of that age, see it for what it is.
A pretty girl in a pretty dress. Get a grip people.

  12. Amy says:

Revealing? A bit. But Elmo is naked!!

  13. Jimmy says:

hey, some kids watching SS are probably still nursing.

  14. Jamey-lynn says:

Mitchell, I was thinking the same thing. Did they not see what she was wearing when you walked in the door. Also, you would think an adult would have a little more common sense and dress appropriately.

  15. Mitchell Kanner says:

You mean that not a single production person made a comment while they were filming. C’mon.

  16. Steve says:

The on-air reporting of this as “raunchy” is ridiculous. Yes, she chose the wrong dress for a Sesame Street appearance, but she’s hardly seducing Elmo here.

  17. Elmo says:

    Elmo’s pants are tight!
