Feds Issue Subpoenas Over Xanadu Project

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Federal officials have issued more subpoenas about the stalled Xanadu retail and entertainment project in New Jersey's Meadowlands.

They're asking the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority for information from 2002 until the present about political endorsements by public officials in support of the project.

Sports authority spokesman John Samerjan tells The Record newspaper the agency will cooperate with the request.

Information also has been requested from Assembly and state Senate Democrats.

The sprawling $2 billion complex was originally slated to open in late 2007.

Gov. Chris Christie has proposed using state money to finish the project.
