High Winds, Rough Surf Possible Along NJ Coast

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Strong winds and rough surf are expected to batter parts of the Garden State as a tropical depression races up the coast from Florida.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory and a high wind watch starting Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts of up to 60 mph will build seas to between 8 and 13 feet.

The wind poses a threat to trees and power lines.

Forecasters say heavy rainfall and a storm surge of at least a foot could cause minor coastal flooding.

The storm is expected to reach Maine by Friday.
