NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Comedian Greg Giraldo has died, reportedly of an accidental overdose. He was 44.
Giraldo had been hospitalized in New Brunswick, NJ after he overdosed on prescription pills last weekend. A source from the entertainment and gossip website TMZ.com said the overdose was not a suicide attempt.

Comedy Central released a statement Wednesday night saying “the tragic news of Greg’s passing hits us very, very hard.”
“Greg has been a close member of the Comedy Central family for years, injecting his energy and wicked sense of humor into countless projects,” the statement said, “The comedy community lost a brother today.”
