No Injuries After Hoboken Street Collapses

HOBOKEN, N.J. (AP) -- Hoboken officials have shut down a stretch of a major local roadway after it collapsed late Friday afternoon.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred on Sinatra Drive between 12th and 14th streets.

But it wasn't immediately clear what caused the collapse, which was reported around 4:15 p.m.

Officials say the hole in the roadway appears to be about 50 feet long and about 15 feet wide, and they did not immediately know how long repairs would take. Inspectors say a condominium building near the site remains structurally sound and no evacuation orders were expected.

Meanwhile, commuter ferries were temporarily being rerouted to another location in southern Hoboken as a precaution.
