Gov. Christie To Stump For Corbett In Pa. Race

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) -- Pennsylvania's Republican candidate for governor, Tom Corbett, is getting some campaign help from a man he describes as a role model -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Christie was scheduled to join Corbett at a rally in Williamsport Monday.

Corbett is Pennsylvania's attorney general and has led Democratic nominee Dan Onorato in independent polls since the May primary. But at least one recent poll showed Onorato closing the gap.

Christie, like Corbett, is a former federal prosecutor.

Corbett has said he's been inspired by Christie's first year in office, during which he's shaken up the establishment by proposing steps such as increasing public employees' share of their health care coverage, reducing pension benefits for current public employees and basing teachers' salaries on classroom performance.
