Giuliani Says Democrats Stoke Ethnic Rift

WESTMINSTER, Calif. (AP) — Rudy Giuliani said a California congresswoman’s remarks about Vietnamese trying to unseat her reflect Democrats’ push to pit people against each other and mindset of “ethnic warfare.”

The former New York City mayor made the comments yesterday in Southern California while campaigning for Republican Van Tran, who is running against Democratic incumbent Loretta Sanchez for California’s 47th Congressional district.

Sanchez’s remarks about Vietnamese last month in a television interview have stoked criticism in the ethnically diverse district she has represented for 14 years.

Tran is the first serious challenger Sanchez has faced in recent years.

A spokeswoman for Sanchez’s campaign would not comment.
