Deer Alert For New York Drivers

ORANGETOWN, NY (WCBS 880) - New York State Police are warning drivers that deer are everywhere this mating season.

Their numbers have exploded.

A motorcyclist was killed in Orange County this week when he crashed into a deer.

Bill Kunes, from Mount Hope, speaks from experience.

"Hit one with my motorcycle, and two with my cars," Kunes told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams. "I was about two miles from my house. I was doing about 40 miles an hour [on my motorcycle]. I missed the first one and I hit the second one."

Kunes said, "I took a tumble, fell over. My whole body was beat up, but I was just lucky."

His advice is simple: slow down, scan the shoulders, and if you see a deer, expect more.
