NYer Held In Shooting Death Of Girlfriend

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York man was being held without bail in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Joseph DeFelice was arraigned in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on charges of intentional murder, criminal facilitation and hindering prosecution. Prosecutors said DeFelice provided a 12-page statement to police implicating himself in the death of Mandy Jo Jenkins.

The badly decomposed remains of the 32-year-old woman -- who was killed in August -- were found October 4 near Long Island Rail Road tracks in North Lindenhurst.

Prosecutors declined to discuss details of the killing. They said a second suspect would be charged at a later date.

DeFelice has pleaded not guilty. His attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
