Several Hurt In Fire At Brooklyn Storefront Church

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- A fire struck a storefront church in Brooklyn Tuesday, and several firefighters were injured.

Fire Chief Rocco Rinaldi said the pastor and church members of the Holy Love Pentecostal Church at Rutland Road in the Brownsville section went door to door above church to wake up neighbors and get them out safely.

There were eight apartments above the church.  All residents got out safely.

The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. in the back of the unoccupied church.

"We attempted to put the fire out through the church. There was a setback in the rear. We were able to get the fire from the rear. We have one injured civilian. All the other civilians are fine. We have about three injured firemen," Rinaldi said.

Fire marshals were called to scene to investigate. The cause of the fire wasn't known, and the FDNY didn't say if they though the fire was suspicious.
