Teen Arrested In NJ Grandmother's Death

NEWARK, N.J. (AP/CBS 2) -- Authorities say a New Jersey teenager has been arrested in Virginia and charged with killing an elderly woman during a burglary at her northern New Jersey home.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino said Wednesday that the 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday night at the Norfolk bus station and is being held at a juvenile detention facility there. His name is not being released because of his age.

He's charged with murder in the strangulation death of 69-year-old Luz Hernandez of Orange.

Investigators say they got information Tuesday that the youth had fled from New Jersey.

The prosecutor's office said it will move to have the teen tried as an adult after he is returned to New Jersey.
