Reporting Levon Putney
WAYNE, NJ (WCBS 880) - There are solar panels on rooftops at William Paterson University in Wayne.
LISTEN: WCBS 880′s Levon Putney reports
It is the largest solar panel installation on a college campus in the United States.
One of the university’s main parking lots also has solar panels serving as carports to park under.
“I’m so happy that they’re aesthetically pleasing as well,” university president Kathy Waldron told WCBS 880 reporter Levon Putney. “15 to 20 percent of our energy needs will be coming from the energy that is created by these solar panels.
She says the net result is that they “will save over $4 million in energy costs over the next 15 years.”
They’re a model now.
Dr. Waldron says other schools are calling to ask how to do it.
The best part, she says, is that there are no upfront costs. A private company installed the panels.
