Judge Sentences Driver In Leandra's Law Case

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- A Manhattan judge sentenced on Friday the woman whose actions led to tougher drunk driving laws in New York.

A judge sentenced 31-year-old Carmen Huertas to four to 12 years in prison for the fatal car crash that killed 11-year-old Leandra Rosado.

Huertas had a blood alcohol level of .12 when she raced up the West Side Highway with seven girls in the car.

The crash prompted state legislators to create Leandra's Law, a new law that makes it a felony for people drive while drunk with children in their car.

Huertas had pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including second-degree manslaughter.
