NEW YORK (CBS 2/AP) – After making more controversial comments, Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino refused to back down from his remarks.

Paladino called Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand “Chuck Schumer’s little girl.”

“She follows him, whatever he does,” Paladino said. “So, she is his little girl.”

Gillibrand and Schumer are up for election Tuesday. They appeared at a rally in Rochester Saturday morning with gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo. The two senators told the crowd they are fighting for the middle class.

Sen. Gillibrand called the remark offensive to women.

Meanwhile, Paladino said he would lay off thousands of public workers to fix New York’s fiscal crisis.

His Democratic opponent, Andrew Cuomo, has stopped short of mentioning any cuts.
