NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) – A 2-year-old boy looking out the window of his grandmother’s Long Island home had a close call when a deer slammed into the glass.

The boy’s grandmother, Nancy Vasquez of Kings Park, said she heard a “blast” and thought it was a gunshot.

1010 WINS’ Alice Stockton-Rossini reports

She said her grandson, Chase Legler, was staring out the window inside the house when the buck crashed into it. The impact broke the outer pane of the double-pane window.

No one was injured.

“I called the police and they said they feel it [the deer] may have seen its reflection in the window,” Vasquez said.

She said her grandson, who was waiting to put on his Spiderman Halloween costume, thought it was funny.

“He’s was just laughing,” Vasquez said.

Police said deer were common in the area.

It’s awesome to see the deer again in our neighborhoods. I am shocked that with all the overbuilding in the area (the fact that for every open piece of land in the area, someone feels the need to put a house or two there) that I have seen deer along the Sunken Meadow Parkway in Kings Park and Commack. Hope there are more to come, but also hope there is enough food for them to survive and they don’t end up as roadkill.
