Study: Jets Bring Big Economic Boost To Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Jets are proving to be a major economic boost for the upstate city where the NFL team holds its training camp.

The Jets have held their training camp at Cortland State College for the past two summers and have a contract to hold it there for two more years.

A new study released by the college found that the Jets camp drew 7,000 more fans this past summer than they did in the team's first summer at the school. Last summer, some 41,000 fans attended Jets practices compared to 34,000 during the summer of 2009.

The study found that those visitors spent $5.8 million in the Cortland area, up $1.5 million over the team's inaugural summer in Cortland.

According to the study, fans from 32 states and Canada visited Cortland last summer to take in the team's practices.
