Inmate Found Dead In Connecticut Jail Cell
BRIDGEPORT, CT (AP) - State prisons officials say a man awaiting trial on attempted murder and other charges has apparently committed suicide in his cell.
Officials with the Department of Correction say 37-year-old Jasapersaud Hariprashad was found in his cell at the Bridgeport Community Correctional Institute early Tuesday with a bed sheet tied around his neck and attached to a vent. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He was alone in the cell.
An autopsy is scheduled and the death remains under investigation.
Hariprashad was arrested Aug. 10 by Stratford police after allegedly kidnapping his ex-wife and stabbing her multiple times. He later dropped her off at a hospital.
He was being held on $1 million bond. His public defender declined comment.
