Limited LIRR Service This Weekend

NEW YORK (AP) -- Long Island Rail Road riders should brace themselves for another weekend of limited service.

The LIRR said there will be "extremely limited service" Saturday and Sunday. It will be running a third of its usual trains in and out of Penn Station. Buses will replace trains between Mineola and Jamaica stations. There will be no LIRR service to Brooklyn.

Spectators and runners in the New York City Marathon were advised to take the Port Washington, Babylon or Long Beach branches to avoid busing or subway transfers to New York.

The railroad was working to complete a switch and signal modernization project at its hub in Jamaica, Queens. Severely curtailed service also occurred on Oct. 23-24.
