BETHPAGE, NY (WCBS 880/1010 WINS) - Island Harvest launched its biggest turkey drive ever on Friday.
WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports
Everyone is urged to give so no one goes hungry this holiday season.
“You literally could just drive by. We take it right from your car,” Island Harvest CEO Randi Shubin Dresner tells WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. “You can drop off your frozen turkey or a couple of cans of food.”
The event is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union at 899 South Oyster Bay Road in Bethpage.
It’s your chance to help, says Dresner. She adds, “If we could all pitch in and help our neighbor, this is one way we that could do that.”
Island Harvest hopes to break last year’s record of 4,000 donated turkeys.
Anyone who brings a turkey to the drive on Friday will get free Islander tickets and a chance to win a behind the scenes tour of the “Martha Stewart Show.”
Islanders mascot “Sparky the Dragon” and former New York Ranger Nick Fotiu will be at the drive.
If you can’t make it to Friday’s event, you can also drop off turkeys or any canned food at any Panera Bread of 7-11 store on Long Island.
“We hope to collect eight million pounds of food by the end of the year,” Dresner told 1010 WINS. “This turkey season is a key time for us to collect turkeys, canned foods and other non-perishables so we could really help the community.”
