NYPD: Officer Wounds Man During Struggle

 NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS/CBS 2) -- The New York Police Department says an officer has wounded a man who went berserk and attacked a parked police cruiser.

The shooting occurred early Friday at 2801 Brighton 3rd Street in Brooklyn outside a mounted unit station.

Police say the man used a cobblestone to smash the windshield and a window of the unoccupied police car.

A uniformed officer who heard the commotion raced out to the street and ended up in a struggle with the man before shooting him in the shoulder.

The man was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition. His name wasn't immediately released.

The officer was taken to Coney Island Hospital after sustaining injuries to his head and left hand. He is listed in stable condition.
