Midtown Water Break Investigation Continues

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – Fire officials are still investigating a water main break that happened Saturday evening in Midtown Manhattan.

At 5 p.m., water came gushing out of the sidewalk on West 57th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, flooding the basements of high-end office buildings and a major department store.

"Water is entering the basement of four buildings, one high-rise building, also Bergdorf-Goodmans. The basement has two or three inches of water right now," Deputy Fire Chief James Hodgens said.

West 57th Street was blocked for several hours, and bus service, including the M-57, was affected. The water has since been shut off.
