UConn's Campbell Arrested On Larceny Charge

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut defensive end Marcus Campbell, who was suspended from the team last week, has been arrested.

UConn's student newspaper, The Daily Campus, was first to report that the 22-year-old Campbell was picked up by police on campus Monday morning and charged with 5th-degree larceny.

The arrest follows an investigation into the Sept. 29 theft of a backpack that contained a laptop computer and other items valued at $876, according to a campus police report.

The junior, who missed the 2009 season because of academic issues, has played in 23 games for UConn. He had been expected to start this season, but tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during practice in August and had season-ending surgery. He was suspended last week for an unspecified violation of team rules.

It was not clear Tuesday if the police investigation and the suspension were related. Messages seeking comment were left with a team spokesman. Campbell was released on a promise to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Nov. 17.

The Huskies (4-4, 1-2 Big East) take on conference leader Pittsburgh (5-3, 3-0) on Thursday.
