NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York is number one for a lot of things and now you can add stress to the list.

A newly released study concludes that New Yorkers are the most stressed out people in the country.

Seventy-five percent of those questioned told the American Psychological Association that economic worries are causing them stress — that’s 10 percent higher than the rest of the country.

“Everyday you get up, you go grind, it’s about the dollar,” one woman told 1010 WINS’ John Montone.

“There’s not enough work, not enough money to go around,” one man said.

Compared with workers nationally, New Yorkers are less satisfied with their jobs. One woman told Montone the “environment” or “atmosphere” at the workplace can put her on edge.

The study also found that housing costs, health and personal safety issues are stressing New Yorkers out more than most Americans.

The survey found that 1 in 5 New Yorkers cited a lack of time to effectively deal with the stress but more than half of those questioned felt they were doing enough to manage their stress.

According to the study, New Yorkers fared better than most Americans at coping with stress. Those in the Big Apple are more likely than Americans to walk/excercise and meditate/do yoga to relieve stress.

Also, since 2008, the number of New Yorkers to report eating to ease their stress has declined and less New Yorkers are skipping meals because of stress.

  1. Tired of the BS says:

Why is it that the working middle class people have to bail out the City,State.MTA,DEP,and on and on when they can’t balance a budget ?
Not to mention keeping the oil companies making their greedy mega profits.
Who helps the middle class working people balance our budgets?
If I managed (poorly managed) my buget like the above mentioned I would
be living in a cardboard box in the subway.
Until our Mayor decided to put a property tax on that.

    1. Carol says:

Of course this is true. Just take a drive down Second or Third Avenues or any of the other avenue & you are so tensed with the volume of traffic, the cab drivers who will cut you off or stop short in front of you just to pick up a fare. The traffic congestion due to numerous lane closings all in the name of road repairs that never happens. This city has the worst roads in the nation. Cops are corrupt; city officials are corrupt; the MTA is corrupt. We are heavily taxed and get back so little. We are charged a fine or fee for eveything all in the name of balancing the state & city budget which would be balanced if not for dishonest officials.
