Hearing Tonight On Bridgeport Ballot Shortage

BRIDGEPORT, CT (AP / WCBS 880) - A panel set up by Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch to look into his city's Election Day ballot shortage is scheduled to hold its first public meeting tonight.

Former Bridgeport Mayor Nicholas Panuzio was selected to chair the panel.

"The first thing we're dealing with are those issues that individuals had - whether it was the lack of a ballot, whether they didn't come back to vote, whether they were, in any way, intimidated," Panuzio told WCBS Newsradio 880's Pat Carroll and Michael Wallace. "We just want to first hear from all those people who had individual problems and then we all plan to open it up to the other people who are in the community - officials, legislators, and others who may have comments that they want to make.

Panuzio also said that people "have to be assured that, next year, when they vote -- in the primaries and for mayor -- that their vote's gonna count."

It took days after the Nov. 3 election to determine that Democrat Dan Malloy had defeated Republican Tom Foley in the Connecticut governor's race.

Tuesday's meeting of the Election Day Review Panel will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall Annex, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz has asked the city to audit its election results in the 12 precincts that ran out of ballots.
