Paterson To Call For Special Session
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York Gov. David Paterson said he'll call the Legislature back for a special session Nov. 29 to wrap up unfinished business.
Meanwhile, Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo is asking New York's chief judge to promptly address court challenges in three close, unresolved state Senate elections.
Cuomo said in a letter to Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman that a Senate without a functioning majority come Jan. 5 would stymie public business.
A spokesman said Wednesday that Lippman shares the concern.
The Senate has a 32-30 Democratic majority. The pending results could change that balance of power.
Incumbent Democratic senators Craig Johnson of Long Island and Antoine Thompson of Erie County are trailing as absentee ballots are being counted. Westchester Democrat Suzi Oppenheimer has held onto a slight lead.
