WOODMERE, N.Y. (AP) — A defense lawyer says a Long Island man is “as shocked as anyone” at his arrest on charges of buying pills, swapping cheaper products into their boxes, returning them for refunds and selling the original drugs online.

Nassau County authorities say Rabin Purnsrian’s scheme sickened a 72-year-old woman who bought one of the returned products. She got what she thought was an omega-3 supplement but was actually a male-enhancement drug.

The 43-year-old Purnsrian pleaded not guilty Wednesday to criminal nuisance and other charges.

Police say the North Woodmere man bought over-the-counter painkillers, indigestion drugs and other products from several CVS stores. A CVS spokesman says customers can get refunds if they fear their purchases were tampered with.
