Several Hurt In Elizabeth Apartment Building Fire

ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) -- A fast-moving fire roared through a northern New Jersey apartment building early Thursday.

Two firefighters and one resident sustained minor injuries in the fire on Maggie Avenue in Elizabeth, which broke out around 1 a.m. and continued to burn for several hours before it was contained.

All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but further details on their conditions were not immediately disclosed.

The fire severely damaged the building and displaced several families who lived there. Officials say most of those residents are now staying with family or friends.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Thursday morning.
