City Taxi Drivers Subject To New Dress Code

Drivers Told To Wear "Professional Attire"

NEW YORK (CBS 2/WCBS 880/1010 WINS) — If you come across a shabby cabbie, that driver could soon be facing a fine for his or her fashion faux pas. The Taxi and Limousine Commission wants drivers to present a “professional appearance.”

The current dress code bans tube tops, tank tops and bathing trunks. The revised code doesn’t get too specific.

A driver advocacy group wonders exactly what constitutes “professional attire,” as TLC Commissioner David Yassky admits the dress code is difficult to enforce as it is now.

What about Speaking English and Know Where They Are Going !! I take a Taxi every day in NYC and I can tell you 95% of the time it is Not a pleasurable experience ! NYC take some lessons from London and Tokyo !!

    1. Sally Rogers says:

Gregg, part of the TLC test is English, so maybe you just want someone without an accent? And if you want a London Hack or a Tokyo Hack, pay up!!

  2. MTA says:

Interesting they worry about dress codet vs. enforcing cabbies picking up customers who flag them down.

Stand any time on Water & Wall and watch cabbies pass by customers flagging them down or see how the cabbie pulls over and will not let the passenger in until they describe where they want to go only to see the cabbie pull away.

Cabbie are selective about picking up people. How about the TLC enforcing the rule to pick up a customer without having to negotiate with the driver?

If this continues try the bus or the train!

  3. Bradford Keller says:

Be nice if they stop scratching the plexiglass where their
name goes on that hack card, Most drivers these days dress
in mid eastern style, the Taxi Drver Mosque is on West 29th st looks
    like Kabul.
I had a nice intelligent conversation with a driver once in 1956.

Now they still mumble(against the rules) on the wireless cellphone.what the heck
do they talk about all the way from JFK to midtown?

  4. edy says:

Precisely, start with a shower and then manners.

  5. C.J. says:

    What about mandatory showers?

  6. BF says:

It is about time they wore clothing. Nude drivers are hard to swollow.

  7. LINDSEY says:

I dont care what cabbies wear as long as its something people can walk out onto the street in and that they drive safe.As long as its not pajamas or a bathing suit. They can wear a disney character mascot for all I care.

  8. Jean says:

Its about time. I was wondering when this would come into play. No tie, but either a light blue shirt and probably a dark blue or grey pants to match. I applaud you on this action.

  9. paulrnelson says:

As long as the ‘professional attire’ includes a bath and deodorant, I’m thrilled.

    1. peter says:

What paulrnelson said. Cab drivers seem to refuse to use deoderant. You have AC in your car, USE IT.

  10. antitaliban says:
