NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Westchester County’s efforts to fight medicaid fraud and abuse were coming to effect Sunday.

For identifying Medicaid waste, fraud and abuse, the County received a $61,000 Medicaid reimbursement check from the State. County Executive Rob Asterino said it’s not a whole lot of money but its a start.

Listen: WCBS 880′s Catherine Cioffi reports.

“It’s not an amount that’s going to change the way we do business in Westchester,” he said. However, he said, it ensures that “people are on notice, that if they’re going to try to do this and rip off the taxpayer, that we’re going to unearth it out and we’re going to prosecute them and we’re going to recover the funds for the people.”

Westchester is one of the first counties to receive recovery money from the state.

Great job by Westchester County and you have to love Rob Asterino’s attitude to search, find, prosecute and recover. Westchester and 11 other NY State Counties have a great tool in IDing the potential fraud and abuse perps – It’s Salient Management Company’s Medicaid Solution. You can look it up. http://www.salient.com
