NANUET, NY (WCBS 880) – A mall that has been around for over 40 years is now hoping to compete with its much bigger and more popular neighbor.

WCBS 880’s Catherine Cioffi reports

The Nanuet Mall opened in 1969. but after Palisades Center mall opened up just down Route 59 in West Nyack, the once jumping mall is now out of style.

But Clarkstown supervisor Alex Gromack says Simon Properties is expected to announce their plans for a major renovation next month.

“They’re just going through various options of exactly what that look will be,” Gromack told WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi.

Gromack says renovating the Nanuet Mall is exciting for Clarkstown.

“There has always been some sentimental favoritism to the Nanuet Mall and people have been really rooting it on that it would prosper,” says Gromack.

The renovation is expected to begin sometime in 2012.
