JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBS 2 / WCBS 880/1010 WINS) — Two days after New Jersey’s largest city slashed its police force due to budget cuts, the state’s second-largest city announces similar plans.

Jersey City has proposed laying off 89 members of its police department, including 82 officers.

However, the lines of communication between Mayor Jerramiah Healy, the city, and the union have apparently reopened.

Healy is holding off on sending a layoff notice to the state.

On Tuesday, Newark let go 167 officers.
