Police Hoping Video Leads To Arrest In Cab Shooting

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are still searching for the suspect involved in a Friday shooting of a livery cab driver in Ozone Park.

The suspect was captured on camera in the car as the argument broke out around 10:05 p.m.  Police released the surveillance video Sunday afternoon hoping someone would be able to identify the suspect.

Fernando Mateo, president of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, said that driver Trevor Bell picked up a passenger in front of "Big D's" Car Service in St. Albans, Queens and drove him to Sutter Avenue and 122nd Street, where he was shot four times in the right leg, twice in the left leg and once in the neck.

Bell was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he is currently in critical, but stable condition, Mateo said Sunday.

"We don't know exactly what transpired during the moments before the shooting, but I think that with the images that we have, we will able to at least have an idea as to how this whole thing went down," Mateo said.

Mateo said Bell is currently unable to speak, but is able to communicate with his wife by gesturing.

"He does recognize his wife's voice and he does...move and react when she speaks to him -- which is very good," he said.
