NJ Assembly Dem Expected To Testify In Bribe Trial

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Jurors in the corruption trial of former NJ state Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith were expected to hear from a leading Democrat Tuesday.

The prosecution was expected to call Assemblyman John Wisniewski. He heads the Democratic State Committee and is chairman of the Assembly transportation committee.

Prosecutors said Smith approached Wisniewski about a building project in Jersey City on behalf of a developer.

The man actually was a federal informant who taped meetings in which he gave money to public officials.
