Dog Poop-gate: Woman Alleges Beating By NYPD

Polish Immigrant, 49, Suing Dept. After Dispute Over Excrement

ROCKAWAY BEACH, N.Y. (CBS 2) — A Queens woman who said she was brutalized by a pair of police officers and is now taking the NYPD to court.

She said she was roughed up during a clash with police because the officers thought she failed to clean up after her dog.

Anna Stanczyk said showing CBS 2’s Dave Carlin her bruises is the easy part. It’s talking about how she got them that is tough.

“It’s a nightmare,” Stanczyk said.

Stanczyk said was walking her 10-year-old terrier mix, Psotka, right outside her apartment building on Shore Front Parkway in Rockaway Beach on Nov. 26 when a police car with two officers pulled up and she was ordered to pick up after her dog, who she said only urinated, nothing more.

“I got a little upset, but I was shocked — they tell me to pick up what doesn’t belong to my dog,” Stanczyk told Carlin.

She said as she picked old excrement from some other dog, she protested and that’s when the handcuffs came out. In the process her dog got loose.

“I said, ‘no! My dog! What about my dog? And I don’t want to get arrested,” Stanczyk said.

Investigators from Internal Affairs would not talk on camera and the Police Department spokesman did not get back to CBS 2 with a statement, which leaves a line from the criminal complaint to sum up why she was arrested for disorderly conduct — for something as minor as a dispute over dog excrement:

“By yelling and screaming ‘I picked up after my dog, leave me alone,’ which did cause public inconvenience.”

Stanczyk said there was a good explanation for why she screamed.

“I started to scream for help. Help, help … my dog is going to be killed by a car,” she said.

“The moment I scream I feel the punch in my face. They punch back of head, my breast.”

While at the 100th Precinct stationhouse it became clear Stanczyk needed medical attention so she said she was brought in handcuffs to Peninsula Hospital, where doctors checked her out.

She said she was in shock and too afraid to tell them who injured her.

“I was scared to open my mouth,” she said.

Stanczyk’s lawyer said the case against the 49-year-old Polish immigrant housewife will likely be dismissed if she stays out of trouble between now and May.

But she is suing the police.

“If this can happen to me it can happen to other people,” Stanczyk said.

This case needs professional help and attention.
What could we said in this situation if this accident possibly happen to our own mother?

  3. Bruce White says:

I guess all you cop lovers missed the part about the witness! Even if this woman was guilty and resisting arrest two male officers ( DeMartini a 10 yr veteran) should not have to beat a 49 year old woman. They were trained to handle obstinance and should be severly reprimanded for such a brutal attack.

    I’m shocked!

  6. Jacek says:

we should ask about how the cops were trained to deal with people ! u cant handcuff sb bec of some excrements! there must be some boundaries!!!! using force should be the ultimate solution!!!

You people are morons for believing everything you read, especially on a story that leaves out very pertinent details that were published in other articles about this incident. They are slanting it to appear as if the woman was assaulted for no reason by cops because her dog took a dump. If she had to be handcuffed and out into a police car I’m sure she was acting like a model citizen getting a minor ticket. Other articles mention that she REPEATEDLY kicked at the cops as they handcuffed her and tried to put her in the car. Sounds like another loser with no respect for the law thinking that they can do whatever they want. A NORMAL PERSON would take the ticket, plead not guilty and fight it in court. Out of control wild people try to fight the cops when getting a ticket, not normal people. Shame on these media outlets for running with this nothing of a story badmouthing cops that risk their lives EVERY DAY so this woman can walk her dog without fear of being robbed.

    1. David Schaefer says:

Where are these reports of which you speak?

As the son of a life long police officer I’m well aware of the fantastic job most officers do. However, in this case, I have yet to read anything other than this womans story, so there’s not enough information yet.

I haven’t read anywhere about her kicking the police. I searched specifically for that after reading your comment… Where are you reading this?

    2. Ted says:

So Donnie, where are these other articles you mentioned?

  8. The Truth says:

If its true those Cops should be fired and sued personally! Tired of having to pay for these cases when Cops misbehave. Believe it they just want 20 years and to retire. Not hero’s at all just looking for a lottery pension.

    1. The Good Samaritan says:

      Sure The Truth

The cops should be sued for doing their job.

This lady had problems at her recent job and was let go. Don’t you see her pattern of behavior?

      The Good Samaritan has spoken

If this story is true these THUGS IN BLUE should be fired, sued and tossed in jail. These stories are all to common.

  11. Amy says:

Another story of he said she said. Where’s her proof that the cop caused these bruises? There’s also a large part of this story conveniently left out that’s been reported by various other news sources, in which she ADMITS that she tried to kick the door of the cop car open to escape. Yelling and screaming and kicking is considered disorderly conduct, and the police have every right to get the criminal under control so they don’t injure someone else. It’s not the cop’s fault that this woman decided to go bonkers because she was too lazy to clean up after her dog.

I’m so sick of my tax dollars going to these idiots who sue because they acted like savage animals, and even more sick that the city allows these idiotic lawsuits to happen.

    1. Johnny says:

Oh you mean like when the cop kicked the cyclist off his bike, caught on video, and was cleared of assault? I suppose that was he said/she said as well. Disorderly Conduct is nothing more than a catch all designed to capture anyone at any time.

    2. Jimmy L says:

I hope she wins a million dollars from the NYPD.

    3. David Schaefer says:

I’m sure I’m just missing all these other reports where she admitted these things, but can anyone PLEASE post a link rather than just saying these things. I can’t find a SINGLE report where I’ve seen that.

  12. CinemaPete says:

I see dog owners all the time in front of my house and on my street disobey the signs that say to clean up after your dog. Many of them DO NOT. They should be indentified and severely fined. However, the treatment this woman received at the hands of New york City’s Finest is not fine at all, but totally out of line. She deserves to sue the city in my opinion for excessive force. This is even worse than the woman who was fined $100 for throwing her news paper into a city(?) trash recepticle. What’s going on here? THere’s something very wrong with city government if these kinds of things are happening. The woman is right, if it could happen to her it could happen to anyone else. This is a reflection of a punative mentality by the city towards its residents – very bad. These kinds of things separately are bad enough but when they occur throught the city then something is clearly wrong with the city. EVERYONE NEEDS TO WRITE A LETTER TO THE MAYORS OFFICE AND THE CITY ADVOCATE DENOUNCING THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR.

What is wrong with the police ?!? Stories like this are infuriating! A similar situation just happened to a friend of mine too.

What ever happened to “Protect & Serve”? Is that now ancient history?

Jack-Booted Thugs is the new term that people are using for police in America. Sadly, it is an accurate depiction.

This is the new America … sad … our Founding Fathers must be turning in their graves.
