Time Out New York Kids: Santa, Tubas And First Grade

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – With Christmas around the corner, there are plenty of family events this weekend.

Time Out New York Kids' Raven Snook joined CBS 2 live in the studio to give New Yorkers a preview.

1. New York City Fire Museum's Annual Santa Rescue

When: Sunday, Dec. 12 at 11:30 a.m.

Where: 278 Spring St. (between Hudson and Varick)

Tickets: $7, children under 12 $1

Description:

Kris Kringle makes an early appearance and gets stranded on the roof when his reindeer fly off without him. Happily, New York's bravest come to the rescue. Viewing the rooftop exploits is free to all, but for the cost of museum admission families can head inside to enjoy quality time and a photo op with St. Nick, plus hot chocolate, live Christmas carols and hot dogs.

2. Tuba Christmas at Rockefeller Center

When: Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m.

Where: The Rink at Rockefeller Center

Tickets: Free

Description:

Some 500 tuba players descend upon the Rink at Rock Center, where they'll belt out holiday tunes (and scare away pigeons, we presume). Hint: If you want to avoid the crowds, just swing by the rehearsal at 12:30pm.

3. Junie B. Jones

When: Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m.

Where: TheaterWorksUSA

199 Chambers St (between Greenwich and West St)

Tickets: $25

Description:

A quirky production from TheatreworksUSA, Junie B. Jones is a 60-minute musical chronicling the misadventures of the plucky title heroine as she tackles her biggest challenge in life: first grade. Based on Barbara Park's popular book series, the show features the eclectic and sophisticated songs of cabaret acts Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich.
