Concussion Forces Jets' Smith To Sit Against Steelers

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Safety Eric Smith will miss the New York Jets' game at Pittsburgh on Sunday while recovering from a concussion.

Smith, who has had at least two previous concussions, was hurt in the Jets' 10-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. Coach Rex Ryan says Wednesday that he doesn't "believe" Smith will play against the Steelers (10-3), leaving the Jets (9-4) short-handed again at safety.

Ryan says cornerback Dwight Lowery will move to safety full time, and the Jets are hoping to have James Ihedigbo (right ankle/knee) back after missing a game.

Right tackle Damien Woody also has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his injured right knee, and "he's doing fine," Ryan said. Woody could miss the rest of the regular season.
